Our cardiologists, Dr Stephan Foy, Dr Calvin Phang and Dr Ram Parameswaran have a long association of collaboration and collegial support.

Each has gained a respected reputation for their excellence in providing high quality, personalised cardiac care. They are recognised for their leadership in the development of cardiac services for the Geelong community.

Stephan, Calvin and Ram provide specialist care in general adult cardiology with an emphasis on the management of coronary artery disease, cardiac rhythm disorders, and cardiac device implantation.

Dr Stephan G Foy

A graduate of University of Otago, Stephan gained his post-graduate Doctor of Medicine by research work at The Princess Margaret Hospital, Christchurch, NZ. After completing his Coronary Interventional Fellowship (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions) at Royal Perth Hospital, WA, Stephan was appointed as Consultant Invasive Cardiologist at Launceston General Hospital, Tasmania. Stephan’s expertise in invasive cardiac techniques led him to establish the invasive cardiac services at Launceston General Hospital. He implemented the hospital’s cardiac catheterisation and permanent pacemaker implantation services.

Stephan has full accreditation at St John of God Geelong Hospital where he was the leading clinical advisor for the development and implementation of the hospital’s Cardiac Services. He continues to be the key advisor to the hospital’s Cardiac Catheterisation and Interventional Cardiology programmes and Cardiac Care Unit. Stephan was instrumental in the establishment of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St John of God Geelong Hospital.

As an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor, University of Notre Dame Australia, Stephan developed the School’s clinical teaching programme at St John of God Geelong Hospital. Stephan has been supervisor of this programme since its inception in 2022.

Stephan’s professional affiliations include Fellow Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Fellow Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Stephan established “Heart Centre St John of God” as the first fully private cardiology practice in Geelong. He practices across the broad spectrum of adult cardiology with sub-speciality expertise in coronary interventions and permanent pacemaker implantation.

Dr Calvin Phang is a Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist at Heart Centre St John of God.

He was awarded a scholarship to study medicine at University of Melbourne. After graduation, he completed his basic physician training at Austin Health in Melbourne. He undertook advanced training in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and Central Coast in NSW. He returned to Melbourne after securing interventional cardiology fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne and The Northern Health.

He is well-published and actively involved in multicentre trials, research projects and audits. He is a reviewer for several highly reputable journals such as Eurointervention and Asiaintervention. He is also a reviewer for National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC) grants. He is regularly invited to speak at national conferences.

He is an expert in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) involving left main disease, bifurcation disease, triple vessel disease, graft disease and chronic total occlusion (CTO), using a variety of tools such as Rotational and Orbital Atherectomy, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) and Instantaneous wave-free Ratio (iFR).

He is a pioneer in distal radial angiography in Australia.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and an International Associate of the American College of Cardiology.  He is a member of the Australian Medical Association.  

He is passionate about providing a high standard of care and compassion to all his patients. He also believes in providing prompt communications to all his referrers.

Specialist Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist

Dr Ram Parameswaran is a specialist cardiologist and electrophysiologist with a passion for managing heart rhythm disorders. 

After completing his undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in India, he moved to Australia and completed his cardiology training at Launceston General Hospital, Tasmania. Subsequently, Ram undertook his subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology and device implantation at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney, The Royal Melbourne and The Alfred Hospitals and completed his PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2021. His research investigated the novel mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, the commonest heart rhythm abnormality encountered in clinical practice and provided unique insights into the abnormal patterns of electrical activation that results in this heart rhythm disorder. He has authored several research publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. 

Ram holds his private practice at St John of God, Geelong where he performs catheter ablations for complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and implants a wide range of cardiac devices.

Carolyn studied at Swinburne University of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Biophysics and Instrumentation). Prior to Carolyn joining our Practice, she gained 8 years’ experience as a Respiratory Technician here in Geelong, Melbourne and Frankston. Carolyn has successfully completed her graduate diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound from Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Carolyn has worked as a Cardiac Technician and Cardiac Sonographer at the Heart Centre since 2008.

Mr Chaoran Yi Sonographer

Chao practiced as a medical doctor in China for over 11 years before emigrating to Canada. In Canada, he pursued further education, enrolling in the Cardiovascular Technology and Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography programs at the Institute for Applied Health Science at McMaster (IH), Mohawk College. After graduating, he worked as a cardiac sonographer for more than four years at Total Cardiology and Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary. He then relocated to Australia to continue his career.

Chao joined our practice as a cardiac sonographer in 2020.

Priyanka has a Bachelor Degree in Cardiovascular Technology and a Masters Degree in Echocardiography from the prestigious Manipal University in India.
Priyanka has worked in several renowned hospitals across India and at the King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as well as the Alice Springs Hospital in the Northern Territory.

Priyanka joined our practice as a cardiac sonographer in 2022.

Megs is currently studying her Master of Applied Sport Science.

Megs role includes diagnostic testing, monitoring and supporting our Cardiologists with Exercise Stress Testing.

Linda has vast experience in business management, having come from a managerial position at one of Geelong’s largest retail pharmacies. 

Linda assumes responsibility for all our Practice operational matters.  In addition, Linda may be contacted to deal with issues arising from patient contacts, such as accounts enquiries.

Sue achieved her qualification as a Medical Receptionist in 2000 and has a career in the Medical field for over 20 years.
